About TWENTY- Nine students of  God’s Own Secondary School, Umuchu in Aguata local government area of Anambra State, who registered for the ongoing West African School Certificate Examinations, WASCE, have protested the alleged omission of their names for the examination by the West African Examinations Council, WAEC.

Chairman of Board of Governors of the school, Mr. E.C. Eze and the Parents Teachers Association, PTA, chairman, Nze Umeanozie, in a statement made available to reporters in Awka yesterday, expressed shock that WAEC collected money from the students and failed to include them among those sitting for the examination.

According to them, the students have already missed some papers. They  wondered what would be their fate after meeting all the payment requirements by WAEC.

Their statement read: “The WAEC-organised May/June 2019 Senior Secondary School Examinations started nationwide on April 8 and many students were denied entrance into the exam halls after WAEC had collected high exam fees from them.

“For instance, 53 students of God’s Own School Umuchu, Anambra State paid N739,350 to WAEC vide Receipt No 265698 & 2656789 and FBN Ekwulobia Bank Draft Nos 90795523 & 19720179 of 11/2/2019.

“WAEC issued the school, a revenue receipt voucher for the 53 candidates. However, on 1st March 2019, the cyber café engaged to upload the student’s record to WAEC server uploaded only 24 students before it experienced network problem and closed 12am March 1, 2019, thereby leaving 29 students not uploaded.”

“The Principal of the school, Mr. C.P.Anyikwa had been to the WAEC offices in Awka and Lagos four times, pleading with the examination’s authorities to open their server and upload the 29 students for the exam, but they refused.

“The Deputy Registrar of WAEC Mr. Olajide Adebayo told the Principal that his boss, Mr. Olu I. Adenipekun, who is the head of WAEC national office was said to have travelled abroad.” Source:
